COVID: Dubai begins vaccination with the Sinopharm vaccine

Dubai said on Saturday that it would start vaccination with the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine against Covid-19 disease.

The Dubai Government Media Office said in a statement that the vaccination campaign will start on Sunday and will include "all citizens and residents who are over 60 years old."

The emirate of Dubai started the first phase of the vaccination campaign to prevent COVID-19 in December, using the vaccine produced by Pfizer and Biontech.

Dubai announced that it will reschedule the appointments for residents to receive the first dose of the Pfizer / Bionic anti-corona virus, due to a global slowdown in vaccine delivery.

Dubai had launched a large campaign in December to vaccinate against the emerging corona virus, after the UAE approved the use of the Chinese "Sinopharma" vaccine and the Pfizer / Biontech vaccine, as they are safe vaccines that conform to international standards.

The Dubai Health Authority announced on Twitter that it is "working to reschedule the appointments for the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, Pfizer / Biontech, due to the vaccine manufacturer’s expansion work, which affected current doses in a number of countries of the world."

The authority confirmed that "all appointments for the customers of the second dose are fixed, and it advises the public to adhere to their appointments and come to the service centers at the time specified in advance."

And life seems normal in Dubai, where no closure or quarantine has been imposed, while shopping centers, beaches and restaurants are crowded, and at the same time everyone must wear masks and maintain social distancing, with the emirate enacting penalties in case of violating these rules.

On Saturday, the UAE crossed the threshold of 300,000 COVID-19 cases, after the UAE Ministry of Health announced the registration of 3,647 new infections.

The ministry said in a statement that it had conducted "183,952 new tests during the past 24 hours," which led to the detection of new infections.

This brings the number of registered injuries in the UAE to 300,661, while 12 new deaths were announced, bringing the total number of deaths to 838.
