Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian king and star
forward for Liverpool FC, experienced a memorable fan
interaction during the club's pre-season tour. The moment occurred around the
friendly match against Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan on Wednesday, a game the
Reds won 3-1 as part of their preparations for the new season.
A Fan's Special Gift: A Chess Set for the King ♟️
A Liverpool
fan at the Yokohama stadium gave Mohamed Salah a thoughtful and unexpected gift:
a chess set. The gesture quickly captured the hearts of fans worldwide, with
images of the moment being widely shared across social media. This special
present was a clear nod to Salah's well-known passion for the strategic game.
Salah himself has previously spoken about his love
for chess in an interview on Liverpool's official website. "I'm addicted
to chess, literally every day," he confessed. "I play at least seven
or eight games, maybe more. I'm not sure if it develops my style of play, but
it certainly makes you think strategically, and I just love the game."
The Egyptian captain also revealed his great
admiration for the Norwegian World Champion, Magnus Carlsen, describing him as seemingly
unbeatable. This public passion for chess made the fan's gift all the more
personal and meaningful.
This isn't the first time a fan has captured the
spotlight by giving Salah a special gift. Back in October 2018, following a
decisive 4-0 victory over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League at Anfield,
an Egyptian fan famously caught his attention. She held a sign that read,
"Salah, I have come all the way from Egypt for your shirt." Mohamed Salah graciously fulfilled her wish,
approaching her to give her his match-worn shirt. In a touching exchange, she
then handed him a gift, which was a box of Belgian chocolates.
A Season of Triumph 🏆
Mohamed Salah is coming off an extraordinary
season where he was instrumental in leading Liverpool
to their historic 20th Premier League title, equalling the record held
by Manchester United.
Individually, he also claimed the Golden Boot
as the top scorer in the Premier League with an impressive 29 goals. This
marked the fourth time in his career that he has won the award, placing him
alongside the legendary Arsenal striker, Thierry Henry.
What's Next for the Reds? 🗓️
With their pre-season tour complete, Liverpool
now looks ahead to the official start of the season. Their first competitive
match will be on August 10th
at Wembley Stadium, where they will face Crystal Palace for the Community Shield.
Following that, the Reds will begin the defence of
their Premier League title on August 15th
with a home game against Bournemouth.
It's
always heartwarming to see these special connections between players and fans!
