UK announces discovery of another new strain of coronavirus
Another new strain of coronavirus (covid-19) was discovered this friday in the united kingdom.
The announcement was made by the british health minister, matt hancock, who insisted on the origin of this new variant from south africa.
according to matt hancock, this new variant is more congenial and active than the one identified a few days ago in london.
"this new strain of coronavirus is of great concern, because it is more conagous and seems to have mutated more than the new variant that was identified a few days ago," he explained.
To stop the spread of this new variant, the British health minister called anyone who has been in "close contact" with a person who was in South Africa during the last two weeks "self-contained".
Several countries suspend links with london
following the discovery of the previous new coronavirus strain in the united kingdom, several countries announced the suspension of their links with london.
the netherlands and germany have suspended their air and ground connections with the united kingdom until the beginning of next year.
Are the vaccines effective against these new covid-19 variants?
At present, all scientists believe that the vaccine response should be adequate for these mutations, but vigilance is still required.
According to the british medical journal, the previous new variant coronavirus has mutations in the spike protein targeted by the three main vaccines, but "vaccines produce antibodies that target several regions of the protein in question, so it is unlikely that these mutations will make them less effective.
