Illegal immigration: 5,343 Algerians arrested on the Spanish coast in 2020
European Union data on illegal immigration during the year 2020 revealed that the number of Algerian illegal immigrants arrested on the Spanish coast reached 5,343.
The figures reported by the Algerian League for the Defense of Human Rights (LADDH), on the occasion of International Migration Day, confirmed the continuation of the wave of illegal immigration to the other side of the Mediterranean.
According to the LADDH these figures represent the period between January and September 6, 2020.
Also according to European Union data on Algerian immigrants: More than 704 101 Algerians are holders of a residence permit in the European Union, of which 37 714 are beneficiaries of a new residence permit. In 2019: 30,890 Algerian immigrants were living illegally in Europe. In 2018: more than 1,528 Algerians in an irregular situation were expelled from France.
Between the beginning of 2020 and September 6, more than 5343 illegal Algerian immigrants were arrested on the Spanish coast, and 85 disappeared at sea during the same period.
In 2019, there are 294,000 irregular migrants in Algeria, according to the International Organization for Migration.
