Gabriel Attal: Curfew at 6 pm does not slow down the virus sufficiently

"Different scenarios" are being studied to cope with the health situation, including a "very tight" containment, said government spokesman Gabriel Attal on Wednesday.

The curfew introduced at 6 p.m. "is relatively effective" and "does not sufficiently" slow the spread of the Covid-19 virus to be "fully effective," government spokesman Gabriel Attal said Wednesday.

"Different scenarios" are being studied to cope with the health situation, and will be the subject of consultation with Parliament and unions, he added after the Council of Ministers following a council of health defense at the Elysée.

"Very tight containment"

These "scenarios" range "from maintaining the current framework to a very tight containment", he said at the end of the council of ministers having followed a council of health defense at the Elysée Palace.

President Emmanuel Macron asked for "additional analyses" on these different scenarios before making decisions, said Gabriel Attal. But "the maintenance of the current framework seems unlikely", according to the spokesman, who promised "a consultation with Parliament and the unions" in the coming days.

"A weariness"

Curfew has, according to him, "a relative effectiveness, which is real but not sufficient at this stage". It "slows the progression of the virus", but the virus "continues to progress" while "the variants are developing at a significant rate," he explained.

The epidemic, he recalled, has reached "a high plateau", with "an increasing incidence and increasing pressure on the hospital". The spokesman also acknowledged that there was "a weariness among many French people" and "among our caregivers" in the face of the health crisis.
