Trump criticizes Biden's policies: The massive influx of immigrants will destroy our country
Former Republican President Donald Trump criticized the immigration policy of the current Democratic US President, Joe Biden, against the backdrop of the increasing number of immigrants arriving at the southern border with Mexico, including thousands of unaccompanied children, warning that the large influx of immigrants would "destroy" the United States .
"Look, they come from foreign countries. I see they come from Yemen. And from the Middle East. They come from everywhere, they let them in," Trump said in a telephone interview with " Fox News ", describing this as "a stigma." "They will destroy our country if we don't do something about it," he added.
Since the first day of his presidential term, on January 20, Biden has canceled controversial decisions that Trump had taken on the immigration file, as he decided to stop building a border wall and proposed legislation that would give about 11 million people illegally residing in the United States an opportunity to apply for citizenship. .
Trump has expressed outrage that Biden has "undermined the progress" his administration has made on the border on national security and screening of asylum seekers.
Trump added that he and Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador had established a "great relationship" with a common interest in controlling illegal immigration and building an effective border wall.
"They had 28,000 soldiers on our borders while we were building the wall, and they were stopped at their northern borders by Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala," he said.
Trump had cut off aid to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, which was intended to address the roots of the migration crisis, especially violence and the repercussions of natural disasters.
On Tuesday, before meeting Trump, US Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorcas, defended President Joe Biden's approach to the immigration file, noting that the United States maintains the security of its borders and enforces its laws while continuing to adhere to its values and principles.
Mayuras acknowledged that the US border will witness the largest influx of immigrants in two decades, but he said that the increased flow is "not new", as the country had previously witnessed a similar situation in 2019, 2014 and previous years.
Mayuras said that the increase in the number of unaccompanied children, some of them as young as six or seven, is due to the annulment of the decisions of the former president, whose administration had "brutally expelled young children and threw them into the hands of smugglers."
"They are weak children, and we have put an end to the expulsions that the previous administration was practicing against them," he added.
The Biden administration continues to expel the majority of single immigrant adults and immigrants with their families.
In February, the Customs and Border Protection office arrested about 100,000 people at the southern border of the United States, including about 9,500 unaccompanied children, an increase of 28 percent compared to January.
Mayuras, who was born in Cuba, was a baby when he arrived with his immigrant parents in the United States, which gave them "hope," according to the US secretary.
"Currently, young children are arriving at our borders with the same hope," Mayorcas said, adding, "We can," referring to the fulfillment of these migrants' aspirations.
