Le Monde: Israeli-UAE Cooperation to eliminate UNRWA

The French newspaper Le Monde revealed that the United Arab Emirates had sought to end the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA); in coordination with “Israel.”

The report said that this came since Israel and the United Arab Emirates declared their normalization last August.

In a report published Wednesday, Lomond said the UAE is considering an action plan to end UNRWA's work, highlighting the evolving relationships and mutual activities between Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv, without making this development conditional on solving the refugee problem. The UAE was a major source of funding for UNRWA in 2018 and 2019, along with Qatar and Saudi Arabia to offset US President Donald Trump's suspension from funding the agency, making it on the verge of bankruptcy.

UNRWA” is an international institution established 72 years ago, providing aid to displaced Palestinians and displaced persons.

The French newspaper noted that a new strategic hub has begun to emerge between “Israel” and the United Arab Emirates, stating that “since the normalization agreement in mid-August, bilateral agreements in technology, media, soccer, and tourism have doubled, to the point that Israelis now see Dubai as a new paradise.”

In her report, the French newspaper reported that Jewish music was playing in Dubai, that a Jewish wedding was held in the middle of a Jewish presence, and that two Emiratis were present in their traditional costume, “the first Orthodox Jewish wedding ever celebrated in the United Arab Emirates, the rich country of the Arab Gulf.”

The French newspaper believes that it is pushing the UAE to help “Israel” get rid of “UNRWA,” a goal that Tel Aviv is trying to achieve.

“Israel” is well positioned to liquidate and stop UNRWA activities, threatening vital projects that benefit millions of people, including six million Palestinian refugees.

Tel Aviv argues that UNRWA “prolongs” the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and impedes the peace process, by establishing that large numbers of Palestinians are refugees and have the right to return to villages and towns that had to flee or leave during the 1948 Nakba and the creation of a “Israel.”

The Israeli hopes of suspending or freezing the organization's work are enhanced by the US accusations leveled by President Donald Trump's administration two years ago, and the suspension of its funding, accusing it of being “biased by irreparable images,” which “Israel” welcomed in a timely manner, and expressing its satisfaction with the American move, thus greatly hamstrung the organization’s work.
