Google removes social network PARLER from the Play store

Google announced on Friday that it has removed the social network Parler, a popular social network for Donald Trump's most ardent supporters, from its application download platform due to the presence of messages "inciting violence".

The group requires all applications available on the Google Play Store to implement a "robust moderation policy for extreme content" if they host and broadcast user messages, explains a message sent to AFP.

However, "we know that messages inciting the violence going on in the United States continue to be posted on Talk," the group added.

"Given this ongoing and immediate threat to public safety, we are suspending the availability of the application on Google's online store until [Speak] resolves these issues," the company concluded.

Messages of support for the rioters who broke into Capitol Hill on Wednesday have been flowing in the wake of events surrounding the application, which has gained a large following in recent months.

Faced with recent events, several social networks have decided to suspend Donald Trump's accounts, permanently on Twitter, indefinitely on Facebook, Snapchat or Twitch.

Google's decision now makes access to this platform more complicated for owners of devices running the Android operating system.

According to U.S. media reports, Apple, for its part, gave Friday 24 hours to Parler to implement a moderation policy before suspending it from its own online store, the App Store.

The social network Parler is no longer the prerogative of extremist bangs as in its early days and now attracts more traditional conservative voices, including Republican congressmen.

Like other alternative platforms, it regulates misinformation and hate speech less than established networks.
